FLYING LESSON

Fragility, Courage, and Rebirth

"Flying Lesson" embodies flight as liberation and transformation. The collection reflects a personal journey articulated through five stages — Introspection, Courage, Fly, Explore, and Rediscovery — each translated into contemporary jewelry as a state of becoming.

Inspired by Nichita Stănescu’s poem “The Flying Lesson”, the collection treats flight not as an external action, but as an inner discipline — a conscious sequence of gestures, decisions, and transformations. In the poem, flight begins long before the wings move. It begins with contraction, silence, refusal, intention.

“First, you draw your shoulders inward,

then you rise onto the tips of your toes,

you close your eyes,

you refuse hearing.”

This inward gesture becomes the conceptual foundation of the collection. Jewelry functions as a corporeal language — an extension of the body and mind — where metal, light, and form record the invisible mechanics of transformation.

Crafted in 925 sterling silver, 14k pink gold, and cubic zirconia stone, the pieces combine organic curves — symbols of nature, continuity, and vulnerability — with sharp, directional elements that express tension, courage, and decisive movement. Digital design processes (3D modeling, 3D printing) are fused with traditional techniques such as lost-wax casting and hand fabrication, allowing precision to coexist with imperfection and tactile presence.

Rather than depicting wings literally, "Flying Lesson" builds them structurally: as volumes that compress, unfold, fracture, and realign — mirroring the human process of transformation from birth toward rebirth.

INTROSPECTION

Ring - 925 sterling silver, 14k pink gold, cubic zirconia stone

"Introspection" marks the beginning — the moment of inward gathering described in the poem as contraction and silence. The curved volume encloses space, drawing energy toward a luminous core.

“You tell yourself:

now I will fly.”

Technically, the ring is constructed to protect light within matter: a zirconia held as an inner point of clarity. It represents vulnerability not as weakness, but as preparation — the quiet before movement.

COURAGE

In the poem, courage emerges when intention becomes declaration:

“Then you say:

I fly.”

"Courage" embodies this threshold. The form tightens, becomes architectural, almost aerodynamic. Gold accents introduce warmth and pulse, while sharp lines cut through the curved mass, expressing tension between fear and determination.

This piece symbolizes the decisive moment when flight is no longer imagined — it is claimed.

FLY

Ring - 925 sterling silver

"Fly" translates the physical act of ascent into pure structure. The elongated, vertical form suggests open wings suspended in motion, stripped of ornamentation to reveal direction and lightness.

“And this is flight.”

Executed entirely in sterling silver, the ring relies on proportion, silhouette, and negative space. Advanced modeling and casting techniques allow extreme elongation and lightness, reinforcing the sensation of upward movement and freedom.

EXPLORE

Brooch - 925 sterling silver

In Stănescu’s poem, flight expands beyond the individual body and enters time and transformation:

“And this is time.”

"Explore" captures this phase of expansion. The brooch is layered and stratified, evoking feathers, rivers converging, and maps unfolding. It reflects flight as orientation — no longer a single gesture, but a continuous navigation through experience.

Despite its compact scale, the piece has an architectural complexity that mirrors the accumulation of lived moments.

REDISCOVERY

Ring - 925 sterling silver

The poem concludes with a radical transformation of identity:

“You flap

someone else’s wings;

and then

you are him,

and he

is always someone else.”

"Rediscovery" embodies this dissolution and reconfiguration of the self. The earrings follow the rhythm of a mature wing — fully articulated, balanced, and fluid. Their movement reflects continuity rather than effort.

Crafted to guide light along sculpted surfaces, these pieces represent the moment when flight becomes instinctive — when identity is no longer fixed, but fluid and open.

Conclusion

“Flying Lesson” honors transformation as a cyclical process — from contraction to expansion, from silence to declaration, from individuality to multiplication.

The flight here is not escape.

It is awareness.

It is courage.

It is time.

It is the continuous act of becoming someone else — and returning changed.

Each piece in the collection becomes wings — not only in form, but as a stage of becoming.
